Women’s Lingerie: Your Basics for Bra Shopping

Let me level with you ladies, we are all complaining about our breasts- they are too big, too small, too perky, and too saggy. They bounce, they jiggle, and they draw attention to us that we might not be comfortable with. We wear the most basic of women’s lingerie, the bra to hold them up, hold them in, and slow their bouncing or for some, to flatten those suckers out to nothing than a round disc. We complain about them, until we hear of a loved one or a friend (often the same thing) who has just found out that she has breast cancer. Just over every minute, a woman dies of breast cancer. That thought, as sad as it might be, should be enough to cut some of the whining when you go bra shopping again. Before you head out or log on to find your next bra or other basic women’s lingerie piece, know these tips to get the best fit and the right style for your own body.

Know Your Real Size

Quick, what size bra do you wear? Okay, now what size bra should you wear? The estimate of women who are wearing the wrong size bra is as high as 80-90%. We just pick a bra and then never change it although our weight may fluctuate up and down. Even if we never gain or lose a pound, our bodies might change shape a time or two. With that in mind, it is important to have a bra fitting done by a professional so that you are wearing the right bra for you. Repeat this step after pregnancy and after weight loss or weight gain.

You can measure yourself, but you might not get the realistic picture or the right size that way.

Know the Best Style of Women’s Lingerie for Your Body Type

If you choose the wrong style of bra for your body, it will not be as good as it could be nor will it be as comfortable as it should be. If you have to spend all of your time tucking your breasts back into the cups, you need a fuller style or a bigger bra (or both).

Know if you Need an Underwire or Not in Your Womens Lingerie Undergarment

Good luck finding certain size bras without having an underwire in them. Sure, you can find sleep bras that way, but those are not meant for daily wear as the name implies. If you want to make sure that you are holding your breasts up and not sagging, you need a bra that will fit the need: tight enough to be supportive but not so tight that they are painful.

October is National Breast Cancer Awareness Month- everyone has been touched by breast cancer- whether it is a friend, a family member, a neighbor or a coworker. Make sure that you are doing your breast exams at home and remind your buddies to give themselves a squeeze as well.
