Chemises: Not Just for Scarlet Any More
Once upon a time, Scarlett O’Hara had a line in the movie that referred to her chemise, often pronounced as shimmy or che-meese. Think of the time period of that movie and you might realize how shocking the line was not only for the movie but for the novel it was based on. There were many people who may not have been shocked at the mention of the item, but that might be because they do not know what chemises are. Take a deep breath loves, we are going to jump into the realm of the chemise.
What are Chemises?
First and foremost, let’s clear up what the heck chemises are. As defined by the dictionary they are a long, loose fitting gown. If you are confused, don’t be: chemises are typically worn as slips underneath dresses but can pull double duty as nightwear as well. Some nightgowns are obviously nightgowns; chemises are a little harder to pick out. If you cannot define its role automatically, call it a chemise.
Where Can I wear Chemises?
You can wear your chemises under your dresses in place of slips or other undergarments. You can wear them as dressing gowns around the house. You can wear them as nightclothes to sleep in. You can even wear them to seduce your special guy. There is really no rule to where you can wear your chemises.
When Do I Wear Chemises?
You can wear chemises any time of the day or night- wherever you would be comfortable wearing a loose, fitting gown. You can wear them under your business wear, as a touch of soft femininity beneath the rougher, sturdier materials of suits and more formal wear. You can wear them in the afternoon and you can wear them in the evening times. Just as you can wear your chemises anywhere that you would like to, you can wear them whenever you would like as well.
The Best Time for Chemises
It may only be me, but here is the very best time for chemises: imagine you have just had a very horrible day. You slip into the hot, steamy water that is filling your bath tub, sinking into your chin. You let the water wash the knots and kinks out of your body and then you scrub yourself with your favorite scented body wash. You slip back out of the bathtub, skin feeling soft but just a little reddened from the hot water and you rub yourself with your sweetest, most luxurious lotion. Do you reach for the ratty, oversized tee shirt after a moment like this? No, you slip into your favorite chemise feeling it whisper over your skin as you drift into bed feeling like a princess.
